The Fairview Area Historical Society meets the third Wednesday of the month, March through May and September through November, at 7:30 p.m. at The Sturgeon House. Programs of historical interest follow each business meeting. Non-members are welcome to attend. Members and their guests also enjoy an annual August picnic. The Society owns and maintains The Sturgeon House . Funding for the house is provided through memberships, fundraisers, grants, gifts and bequests. The Society also oversees activities at the Fairview Cemetery Chapel. The Society is governed by an elected Board of Directors and has non-profit, tax-exempt status. All contributions, memorials, etc., are tax deductible. |

HISTORY OF THE SOCIETY The Fairview Area Historical Society was formed following the nation's bicentennial. Its purpose is to gather and preserve the history of the Fairview area. In 1979, in accordance with its purpose, the Society purchased one of the most historically significant homes in the community, the Robert Sturgeon house, for use as a house museum, depository and meeting place. Since 1998, the Society has hosted a growing genealogical file and offers computer access to these records on site or by mail and e-mail requests. |

PROGRAMS AND SPEAKERS The Society offers speakers, slide presentations and
several school programs on various aspects of the history of The Sturgeon House , please call (814) 474-5855. Meetings are the third Wednesday of the

GIFT SHOP The Society has published several books on local history and offers a venue for local historians to display and sell their published work on consignment. In addition, the Society has Sturgeon House note cards, art sketches and a fine cookbook for sale. Other items for sale appear seasonally. |
